Design matters.

The fact of the matter is, for most users, the user interface is the application. It’s critical that it speak to them naturally.

Good software blends logic and creativity, equal parts math and art. Understanding the psychology of how a user will perceive something and interact with it is critical at every step of design and construction, whether it’s a FileMaker Pro system or a skyscraper. Knowing how to provide meaning through design is a talent that should be used throughout the creation of a system: from the data design of the foundation to the user interface. It's all one.

Productivity goes up with adoption, down with resistance. A system that makes sense to a user feels natural; it will be adopted faster, there will be less training needed, the users will feel comfortable and embrace new features: you get a better and more immediate return on investment.
